The Pointing Finger
By pointing to one thing
as a way to understand
something else, we can
help others understand.
On the other hand,
when we turn one thing
into a symbol
for something else,
we lay the groundwork
for misdirection.
Best to remember
the symbol is not the thing.
The pointing finger
is not the moon.

Cymbals
Which finger is it
That dials 911
Which finger is it
That tickles the tongue
That makes a diner gag
And saves a life
With one pinkie up
Swirling the gin
Crickets in the knuckles
Crack joint by joint
Finger cymbals
Snap crackle pop
Two fingers up
Victory or Peace
Thumb’s out
Hitching a ride to the stars
Which finger divines
Water on the moon
