I can walk back and forth
to my neighbor's house
day after day after day and see
something new every time I go.
I can also travel around the world
and never really notice anything
and in the end come back home
empty-headed.
Which is the longer journey?

The longest journey occurs
By halving the distance
Continuously for all eternity.
Compromise whittles you down
To a sharp point at the end
Of the stick they use to beat you with.
Nobody ever tested to see
If it’s a ball of beeswax you push
Up that hill, or one of your testicles.
How happy to know certain defeat
Is the reward for poetic struggle!
It’s all a reality show now.
