I grew up in Christian fundamentalism, went to hell, came back, became a Presbyterian then a Buddhist Presbyterian, and now I'm a profane Presbyterian Zen Taoist -- not that I'm into labels or anything. Here's what I've learned so far: The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Atrophy
and now that the hand is gone
the fingers are numb
the thumb will not grasp
the paintbrush or the pen
and now that the hand
spasmodically flicks
as if disembodied from the will
wrong keys on the computer
nerve endings act on their own
tapping morse code without meaning
like the empty-headed cosmos
where myths played connect-the-dots
what can the brain recognize
as blood vessels in the eyeballs
shrink and elongate dark splotches
honeysuckle or deadly nightshade

Dr. Mike
Yes, yes. The middle path.
Btw, don't know if I ever mentioned it, but I repost all your blog entries on my tumblr page. Gotta spread the love!
