I grew up in Christian fundamentalism, went to hell, came back, became a Presbyterian then a Buddhist Presbyterian, and now I'm a profane Presbyterian Zen Taoist -- not that I'm into labels or anything. Here's what I've learned so far: The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Modermism
When I open the book of limits,
Nails pop up and screws
Fall out, making a racket
Over the kitchen floor.
When I open the book of directions,
Maps unfold, each in a language
I do not know, and each historically
Documenting a world long gone.
When I open the book of silence,
All the rooms in the apartment
Become sealed in a Zip-Lock bag
And I start to asphyxiate.
When I open the book of lights,
My eyes tear up and I go blind,
Screaming, unable to find my way,
Tripping over loose screws in the kitchen.
