Illusion or Reality?


Is the universe an illusion? It depends on how you define illusion.

If you mean it is temporary, then yes, it is an illusion.

If you mean it doesn't really exist at all, then no, it is not an illusion.

I think this sentence could be teased out more. It could be a question of who it exists for or not. Of course, the other debate would be on what precisely existence entails.

For me, this is the great limitation of language when we wish to discuss the most elemental facets of life, reality, Tao or whatever a person wishes to call it. Each word must be defined and then those definitions need to be defined too. It's almost a never-ending process because, when we get to the very base of meaning, no words will suffice.
