To understand that we are connected, that we belong to one another, is a powerful deterrent to fratricide, terrorism, slavery, and violence. We are not warring tribes. We are the same tribe.
I grew up in Christian fundamentalism, went to hell, came back, became a Presbyterian then a Buddhist Presbyterian, and now I'm a profane Presbyterian Zen Taoist -- not that I'm into labels or anything. Here's what I've learned so far: The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

That would be broadly true if we were - in fact - connected.
But we are not.
And until we are, we're all just Whistling Dixie.
Ah, but we are connected, my dear Crow -- trickster what that you are.
Ah, but we are not. We only think we are, while our minds ensure that we are not.
We could be, of course, and in that sense, we are. But as long as we insist we are separate, each with his own separate identity, then we are not.
As your identity says: "Here's what I've learned so far: The more you know, the more you know you don't know."
When the truth is: The more you think you know, the less you actually know.
Thinking, you see. Do you see?
Very, very few do.
