Rain Tao

Tao is like rain.

Too little dries us out
and makes us brittle.

Too much soaks deep
enough to reach the heart.

The Easy Way Out

After a humid
Arkansas day, to sit on
The back porch in rain.

Feel the prickly sting
Of saturated air, cheeks
Flush with sponge breath.

The horizon tops
Its sampan smile, bamboo splints
Cracking bones to musk.

The ink of spilled rain
Dollops running pictograms
On the kimono.

Silk bolts unscroll scones
Baked by Sistine Irish nuns
In swan sacrifice.
