I grew up in Christian fundamentalism, went to hell, came back, became a Presbyterian then a Buddhist Presbyterian, and now I'm a profane Presbyterian Zen Taoist -- not that I'm into labels or anything. Here's what I've learned so far: The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Mazes
Hazy yellows amaze solace
As words, each its own beauty,
Skinny-dipping in the blue
Swath of an Arkansas heat.
Anew, and always askew,
Attentive to any breeze,
Shrubs bristle crooked fingers
Dripping with red leaves.
What’s for the always new
Burial of the forever past,
In all this ruckus, calamity
Floods and levies collapse.
Decades losing bone marrow
Are shortening their stalks,
Becoming caves drawings
Of a good hunt for memory.
Whatever the way, in or out,
Logs can pound an enemy,
Or soften the meat, or bruise
A wall with blood images.
