I grew up in Christian fundamentalism, went to hell, came back, became a Presbyterian then a Buddhist Presbyterian, and now I'm a profane Presbyterian Zen Taoist -- not that I'm into labels or anything. Here's what I've learned so far: The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

The Sway
Because of a wind, branches
Crackle the clouds. The sway
Unbalances nests, as ground
Shifts its liquid plates, and funnels
Ravage small towns. The sway
Away from the draw in oblong
Trajectories, quarks doing double
Duty, slackening tension, wobble
A top off its spin or the earth
Outside space. What dissuades
Emotion is that fake moon
Above the tides, sympathetic
To the perfect screech of gulls,
Whose wing span is measured light
Filtered through time. The sway
Turns everything upside down.
Its inner ear unbalanced, its mind
Unable to identify what is heard
