How Do You Build a Bridge?

How do you build a bridge
across a rushing river?

How do you build a bridge
across a river of years
that separates you from someone
who has hurt you too many times?

How do you build a bridge
across the present moment
into a future of slow healing?

How do you build a bridge
across the moat you dug
to protect yourself from one
who would kill you
if given the chance?

How do you build a bridge
across your own fear
and into the yet-to-be?

Shoot-‘Em-Ups

“Bronco” Billy, from Arkansas,
was the first silent film cowboy,
playing multiple parts in “The Great Train Robbery.”

He went on to create his own studio
Cranking out one-reelers from the Old West
Of Hollywood before it became Hollywood.

Without something to connect to
Or a place to throw the rope ladder from
Who can bridge anywhere together?

Tom Mix and William S. Hart
Lay the foundation from which the Duke
Lassoed and personified Western lore.

Every bridge is a chain of links
Built one generation to another
Riding off into the sunset.
