Five Mountains
One mountain is for climbing.
It is the one in front of you.
One mountain is for distance.
It is the one you are standing on.
One mountain is for silence.
It is the one you are deep within.
One mountain is for questioning.
It is the one you will never reach.
One mountain is for rest.
It is the one you know like the back of your hand.

Chronos
The air becomes thinner
There are less birds
And more ice
Fissures prove
This rock is still alive
And changing
Even though internalized,
These ridges are not
Earth’s cerebellum.
Vertiginous is the pull
Down for anything climbing--
Whether goats or men
Seven hills surrounded
Cincinnatus who buried
His sword for a plow
