Sometimes It Is Easier
Sometimes it is easier to hear
in the middle of noise than it is
to hear in the middle of silence.
Sometimes it is easier to see
in the middle of darkness than it is
to see in the middle of light.
Sometimes it is easier to believe
in the middle of chaos than it is
to believe in the middle of church.
Sometimes it is easier to live
in the middle of dying than it is
to live in the middle of life.

Whenever
Always there are fewer snow birds in the eiderdown
Balling at the edges of wisdom than puffing
Up crescent feathers glazed with poison.
Always is always wishful thinking rather
Than filling all ten fingers with jewels
And reclining on pillows of perfume.
Rarely are there enough spyglasses to scope
Out merchant vessels ripe for picking than to
Market slave ships full of unemployed refugees.
Never does a raven bleeding from the chest
Answer riddles before the passive
And indifferent head of Buddha.
