All I Miss

A mite rides
atop an elephant.

The mite is all I see.
The elephant is all I miss.

We are immersed in Tao
and never even notice we're wet.

We're too thirsty for more
of whatever we think we're missing.

O

O spearmint on the tongue
Balm for the throat on cold
Winter nights in Ohio!

Ovulating because you are near.

Standing ovations for your aria
In the Cincinnati opera in the zoo
Where seals opine their moans.

Otium, as Latin poets wrote. --

In odes, the most dangerous omen,
Lolling on the barcalounger,
Ogling the awesome babes,

Pralines in their prams –

Oktoberfest in Fountain Square,
With its beer and hot pretzels,
Offerings of opulent polkas

O those open sloes –

Plums to suckle, menthol
Oscillating between coals.
O for the warmth of snow!

The Ohio River froze.
