Family

Family can run
shallow or deep.

Both bring benefits.
Both bring pain.

Shallow ties are
easy to escape.

Deep ties embed
a solid foundation.

Shallow ties come
to mean little.

Deep ties leave scars
all the way to the bone.

HERE'S AN OLD ONE [if you're reading any of this]:

Family Portrait

Prunes among the purple breasts,
Tastier than poisoned figs,
Mean that Augustus Caesar rests,
Intestines finally like his pigs.

His brooding wife still lurks nearby
Tiberius, her favorite son,
And ladles from her own supply
Some arsenic for everyone.

Such happy homilies repose
Power beneath a bridal bower,
Until picked off by a deadly rose
So Little Boots can come to power.

Dr. M:

I'm reading. Every one of them. I really enjoy what you write on here, and I hope you never stop.

Thanks,
