The Life of Symbols

Do we want to matter?
Do we want to make a difference?
Do we want to last in the hearts of others?
Do we want to be missed after we're gone?

This is our desire in this life of symbols.
Symbols create the quanta we become.
They mean something beyond themselves.
Meaning, then, becomes our lifelong task.

Why wouldn't we want to matter?
Why wouldn't we want to make a difference?
Why wouldn't we want to last in the hearts of others?
Why wouldn't we want to be missed after we're gone?

If meaning is our task we must first have understanding. Understanding requires faith. Faith requires other. Other supposes a greater meaning. If we are to live for meaning we must first embrace the meaning around us and follow it back to ourselves.

Symbolic Language

Words are tricky things
That keep changing their meaning,
From the golden calf
To gold fillings harvested
In gas ovens by Nazis.
