Where Children Learn Fear

Children learn fear
from those around them.

Adults who live in fear
raise adults who live in fear.

Fear thrives in isolated lives.
Community hacks it at the roots.

Song: How Children Learn

They see the chalky bones
Of limbs split from trees
And hear tortured groans
Of wind against their knees.

They fling themselves about
The darkest edge of earth
And screech and romp and shout
In games that mimic death.

Their parents age and turn
Against each other’s love
With little left to earn
When push comes to shove.
