will that make me sacred?

If I turn water into wine,
will that make me holy?

No.

Pointing to God is enough.

Not More

Two choices seem
better than one,
but too many
leave me feeling
dissatisfied.

Satisfaction doesn't come
from more choices.
It comes from simple living.

Simple living comes
from fewer choices.

Leap

How high do I have to set the bar
to find peace and contentment?

Joy doesn't come from going over.
Joy is what causes the leap.

Resting Place

When I can't find
a resting place,
the only rest
is in Tao.

When I can't find
a refuge,
the only refuge
is in God.

Within the Divine,
rest is redundant,
refuge irrelevant.

Open to All

The window
that lets in light
also lets in darkness.

The door
that opens to freedom
also opens to chaos.

God is an open window.
Tao is an open door.

Held Back

What holds us back
when we want
to move forward?

What keeps us in place
when we want to keep going?

If it comes from outside,
consider it again.

If it comes from inside,
listen.

So Much to See

So much to see.
So little time to see it.

Another reason
to look closely.

Seven Fears

Dying too soon.
Living too long.

Not knowing enough.
Knowing too much.

Feeling pain.
Feeling nothing.

Not mattering.

Wise Teacher

Just as water seeps
into the lowest places,
Tao flows unimpeded
through every human pain.

This is what makes suffering
such a wise teacher.

The Horizon Within

The walls and fences
that hem us in are not
our greatest barriers.

The greatest barrier
is the horizon within.

Withstanding Fear

When we separate ourselves
from the natural world,
we lose sight of our humanity.

When our humanity dims,
Our ability to withstand fear withers.

Upside Down

A world turned upside down
requires new ways of seeing.

To keep looking with old eyes
is its own form of blindness.

Colonized

A nation is not
a nation unless
the people want
to be a nation.

Otherwise,
there are only
colonies of distrust.

Where distrust
rules the land,
no one is truly free.

Spark

Any spark
can start a fire
if the conditions
are right.

Be mindful
of what you
set aflame.

Still Flowing

I can quiet
my mind.

I can silence
my thoughts.

But even
a calm lake
teems underneath.

a silent river
still flows.

My limits
are supported
by my fears.

My potential
is supported
by my confidence.

My wisdom
is supported
by my experience.

True Change

The only true change
arises from within.

Inner change arises
from seeing differently.

Different sight arises
from the work of Tao.

First and Last

In God, there is
no alpha and omega.

In Tao, there is
no first and last.

Only among the
ten thousand things
do these matter.

They are dreams
of sleeping minds.

What We See

Where we look
determines what we notice.

What we think
determines what we see.

What we see
is not always what we think.

Bridge

Some people
stay on their side
of the bridge.

Some people
cross the bridge
to the other side.

Some people
are the bridge.

In Motion

I don't have to be
in motion to live,
but I do have to be
in motion to love.

Other Parts

The word God
is not God.

The word God
is only part of God.

Other parts
are dark.

Food Source

We feed our families first.
Then we feed our guests,
then our friends and neighbors,
then our fellow citizens.
Then we feed our nation.
Then we feed our allies,
then those in distant lands.
Then we feed our enemies.

But first, Tao feeds us.

One Right Way

Some think there is
only one right way.
Some think their way
is that one right way.

If there is only one right way,
I think it must be this:
to seek a deeper awareness
of the Divine.

Everyone has a way into that.

Plea

What we desire
shows us not only
what we want
but also what we fear.

What we despise
shows us not only
what we loath
but also what we need.

Wanting to See

I want to see.

I wonder if
it's even
possible to see.

I try to see.

I ask to see.

And when
I finally do see,
I say thank you.

Harder than Stone

We build cities out of stone,
but maybe we should
build them out of hearts.

Hearts can be so much harder.

Better Shape

This is a picture of me walking.
It's not really me walking.
It's just a picture of me walking.

If this were really me walking,
I'd be in much better shape.

As the Spirit Moves

Order out of chaos.
Death out of life.
Light out of darkness.

Mystery out of mystery.
Truth out of truth.

Greatest Blindness

We look,
but we do not see
what is there.

We only see
what we know to see.

We can never see
what we do not know to see.

This is our
greatest blindness.

The only cure
is to stop looking
and just see.

Fenced Off

When I fence off those who
don't believe what I believe,
don't preach what I preach,
don't live the way I live,
I fence myself off
from the Promised Land.
