Seeking Shelter


The first reason
we seek shelter
is the weather.

The second reason
is the threat of predators.

The third reason
is for intimacy.

The fourth reason
is for keeping secrets.

The last reason
is to be alone.

    Wristwatches corrode
    In aquamarine coral reefs
    That cling to derricks

    Whose steel drilling rigs
    Like abandoned lighthouses
    Now succor algae

    With oily oysters
    Crustaceans claw their way through
    For the purest blue.
