Moon Blindness

If we were all blind,
how would we know
about stars and the moon?

What other mysteries
would we explore instead?

What are we missing
even now because
we cannot see?

    Only so many
Spaces for words to roost, black
    Letters on a grave,

    Each losing points, or
    Gaining double, according
    To where they align,

    Wing spans bowed and cracked,
    Wounded, yet learning lean sounds,
    To affirm what’s left.

    Here there’re no mirrors.
We know what we look like thanks
    To other people.

    Craters and rocks give
    Distorted reflections. Still
    Water shines light best.

    Dust and red dust scorch
Lungs of forms like us, fossils
    Asphyxiated.

    From one teardrop, salt
    Alone remains and reflects
    Nothing without taste.

    By stars, navigate through space,
    Hoping to find life.
