Deception of Wisdom

The shifting perspective of age
offers the deception of wisdom.

But years are not the source of insight
and wisdom worth its salt
doesn't come from growing old.

    Nothing’s sacred
anymore.
    Yesterday
the peaches froze.

    In the backyard birdbath
    Starvelings stoked on icicles.

    Perhaps
before a glacial thaw,
    What’s moist
must baste the stumps.

    There’s little poetry
can do
To comb velvet from pelts of fur.
