Why a Death Hurts So Much

A death is something
that cannot be repeated.

This is why it hurts so much
when a loved one dies.

We know we won't be able
to repeat the experience,
no matter how painful it is,
to have back the life before.

    Gone today,
    Gone tomorrow,
    Windows sway
    Away in sorrow.

    Whom can I talk to
    Who knows me by heart?
    Carnations turn blue
    In the shopping cart.

    No one to touch,
    No one to play,
    This harp is too much
    To free me that way.

    Loss tragic as this
    Tears open scars
    And ravages bliss
    On electric guitars.

    How little I grow
    Without their insight.
    Without them I know
    Love flames out in flight.

  2. Nor can we ever regain that one moment when we realize how much that person meant to us. We can only truly endure the death of a loved one once -- if we repeated that moment again and again, it would probably kill us.
