Split Mind


My mind is a split mind,
running forever back and forth
between what it thinks it is
and what it thinks it isn't.

As I watch it run and run,
I see that what it thinks it is
and what it thinks it isn't
has nothing to do with what it is.

    Polarization

    Athens and Sparta
    War between two ideas:
    One holds that power
    Expands from using talent
    Of all citizens
    Regardless of race or gender.

    The other believes
    Those few with guns keep
    Everyone in order
    To obliterate
    Any squabbling republic
    Promising people freedom.
