Only a Tree Can Know

Only a tree can know what trees know.

Why is it hard to accept this?

To be is not to know. To know is not to understand. To comprehend is to hold in our hands. Not even trees can do that. Their harp strings need wind to rustle in summer or to rattle in winter.

Knowledge is a mathematical conversion of experience to human understanding, but what makes sense to us may not solve what happens in nature where what survives is all that matters.
