Evolutionary Question

Loneliness I can understand.
We need one another.

But why did we evolve sadness?
Depression? Despair?

Was it for the same reason?

  1. I think sadness, depression, and despair is the byproduct of mind's evolved capability to produce complex anticipation--wish and expectation.

  2. We have known the perfect.
We long for it, and know we'll never have it in this life.

  3. Because it's part of the journey.

A wise man once said, a fish is not aware of water, until it's thrown out of it.

We're like the fish--we're being thrown out so we can be aware of the perfect.

    I guess.

  4. Expectations. Perfection.

    An interesting pairing.
