What Flavor Is the Past?

What flavor is the past?
What scent is the unknown?
What color is humanity?
What size is emptiness?
What texture is this moment?
What noise is divine?

  1. WHAT’S PAST

    Differs according to taste.
    Rot infects antique furniture

    Diced and glazed, without roots,
Abandoned in the junkyard of collectables.

A past participle of dysfunctional memory,
    Lacunae from too much brutality,

    Grammatically unskilled labor
In the construction of a sentence

    Of life without parole,
    What’s past is best forgotten,

Except when sleep awakens a return
    Of beatings, intimidation, and cruelty.
