Empty Houses

An empty house is never really empty
if it once sheltered a family.

An empty bowl is never really empty
if it once fed the hungry.

An empty hand is never really empty
if it once helped a stranger.

An empty mind is never really empty
if it once held beauty.

    The nest may appear
Empty, but do not touch it.
    What once it sheltered
    Has found wings.

    Nothing is empty
    Unless first it was full.
    Presence is not
    Defined by absence.

    Whorls of a conch
    Trumpet elegies of the sea,
    The intricate architecture
    Of spawning.

I enjoy all of your poems and comments, but I especially like this one for some reason. Thanks.
