Face-Off
ReplyDeleteMelville peeled back
God’s face and found
White space in spume
Rising like a whale.
Kafka picked up
The telephone and heard
Instead of a dial tone
Choirs of angels.
Jonah sulked in
The belly of a whale
Because he wouldn’t
Do God’s bidding.
Job, God’s most faithful
Lost everyone he loved
Because of a bet the Lord
Made with the Devil.
Shape-shifter, madness
Behind a clown’s mask,
Why move this painted
Rock away from its tomb?
