Not Every Adversary

Not every adversary is an enemy.
Not every loss is a defeat.
Not every mystery is a puzzle.
Not every question is a challenge.
Not every conflict is a battle.
Not every fear is a disaster.
Not every difficulty is a problem.

  1. The Jobless Rate of Education

    Bureaucrats have bolted
    A boot on my brain.
    Wheels don’t spin;
    They crumple under

    Axle grease. The crunch
    Collapses in triplicate
    As one department
    Merges back into

    Another from which
    Originally it had sprung.
    Can layoffs be far
    Behind? Numbers

    More than quality
    Determine everybody’s
    Pocketbook, because
    They can be computed

    As if cold, hard facts
    Pockmarked teenage faces,
    Took the cash and left
    Them in the unemployment

    Lines, massively in debt
    And doubt about what payoff
    Or kissoff accompanied
    That final diploma.
