Split Mind

A split river is still a river.
A split road is still a road.
A split tree is still a tree.
A split heart is still a heart.
A split mind is anything but still.

  1. The Monkeys

    The monkeys are out tonight,
Firing a missile into the moon,
As if they could blow up water from
    The decapitated head of baseball
    Legend Ted Williams.

Out of the magician’s hat climb
    Monkeys instead of pigeons.
That orangutan is competing to lose
Weight on national tv, tossing a banana skin
Onto the set of Dancing with the Stars.

Whimpering and chattering away on twitters,
They climb to the top branch and masturbate
In public, unsure if cheaters or cheetahs
Prowl below, with subpoenas for child molestation
Or for bankruptcy from a ponzi scheme.

    The monkeys are out tonight
    Screeching more frantically than peacocks
    About who’s got the bomb
    And who’s going to Heaven
    With those thousand aboriginal virgins.
