Simple Sunset

Something as simple as
a sunset has the power
to stop even the roughest
of us and make us look.

Another tie that binds us
in spite of ourselves.

Simulacra

The brooding skies throb
Above each checklist. The watch
Hounds each drop of blood.
*
Or tornado sirens
Frighten owls in the elms and
Compete with police.
*
Or force from giant
Fireballs blister the night air
And level the town.
*
We are living in
Twilight, a diminishing
Of insight and love.
