Here I Am

Here I am,
hemmed in by my senses.

Here I am,
lost forever in the motion of time.

Here I am,
blind and deaf to my true nature.

Interstate at Dawn

Some drive the highway
Until the heat buckles it
And like flocks of geese
They tailspin over the rail
Into the river below.

If you love what you do,
Expect no one to pay you
Because that’s not a job
In this country.
