Startled Mind

Like clapping
under a tree
full of birds,
I can startle
my mind
into silence.

But I cannot
startle my mind
into stillness.

We make too much of the mind
It’s just another muscle
To exercise the body

Always in moderation
Or it might shut down from
Information overload

The challenge is balance
Study those birds in the trees
Before they scatter for winter

Any poem worth anything
is disposable.

The mind is a muscle?
I see it as a problem-solving tool.
But we generally use it to create problems.

Become the birds themselves, if you dare. Go with them and stay as well.
